Sara Lachelle Misterek, born June 1, 1982, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Joseph and Barbara Misterek, passed away on May 21, 2026, at the age of 43.
Sara navigated life with creativity, thoughtfulness, and authenticity. She had a remarkable ability to see beauty and potential in everything around her, and it showed in the things she created. Passionate about home renovation, cooking, art, and creative projects of all kinds, Sara was never afraid to teach herself a new skill and dive in completely. Whether she was flipping houses, tackling renovation projects, or dedicating herself to her artwork, Sara was always in the act of creating. Recently, she began pursuing her dream of becoming a professional artist, embracing that path with courage and excitement.
If you knew Sara, you probably laughed with her often. She was exceptionally quick-witted, with a sharp sense of humor and perfectly timed observations that could make even difficult moments feel lighter. Her humor was never unkind. It was thoughtful, clever, and deeply connected to the way she cared for people.
Beneath her wit was a deeply compassionate heart. Sara loved her friends and family fiercely, cherishing the relationships she built throughout her life. She was a lifelong cat lover who always seemed to find room for one more stray or critter in need of care. Few roles brought her more joy than being Aunt Sara to her beloved niece, Ansley, who held a very special place in her heart.
Sara will be remembered for her creativity, intelligence, kindness, and the way she made others feel comfortable, understood, and accepted for who they truly were. Her absence leaves an immense void in the lives of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Barbara Misterek.
Sara is survived by her brother, Travis, sister-in-law, Misty, beloved niece, Ansley, and her cherished cats, Geoffrey and Nigel, along with many friends and loved ones who will miss her deeply.
A private gathering will be held in Sara’s honor. Those interested in joining the family to celebrate Sara’s life or sharing a memory may reach out to remembering@saramisterek.com.
